“It Becomes Something Really Special” : Liv Shares Why She Gives Monthly

Contact Hostel Supporter, Liv

For just £5 per month, you can make a life-changing difference for the young women served by Contact Hostel in Manchester.

Since 1970, Contact Hostel has been a safe haven for vulnerable teenage girls, providing safe accommodation and support to help them get back on their feet. As a registered charity, Contact receives only one-third of its funding from local authorities, leaving them with over £225,000 to raise each year to continue their vital work.

That's where you come in. By signing up to sponsor a room at Contact Hostel, you can help give the gift of hope to girls facing homelessness and hardship.

Liv, left, who donates £5 per month to Contact says "It feels like a simple, meaningful way to support people in my own community. Knowing that my donation helps women locally makes it feel much more real and personal."

Liv is part of a community of Contact supporters who enable our work to continue by setting up a direct debit and becoming a Room Sponsor. Each monthly gift, no matter how small, makes a big impact. "Contact is there for people during incredibly difficult moments, and even though £5 might not seem like much on its own, it becomes powerful when it helps provide comfort, safety and ongoing support to someone who really needs it," she explains.

What's more, Liv finds the consistency of a monthly donation reassuring. "What I love about giving monthly is how easy it is. Once it's set up, it quietly becomes part of your routine - but every month, you know you're helping to make life a little bit easier for someone else."

Sophie*

And that's exactly what your sponsorship can do. Just ask Sophie*, who left home due to domestic violence at just 17 years old.

At Contact, with the support of her Key Worker, she built confidence, practical life skills and routines that helped her manage daily life. College didn’t suit her, but she discovered purpose and fulfilment working as a Nursery Assistant.

She moved on to longer-term, more independent supported accommodation, ready to manage life with the tools she gained at Contact.

Sophie said : “Staying in Contact enabled me to get a job and find my own place to live. Because of them I am the person who I am right now. Living there was a wonderful experience, and I am thankful for the special moments and growth this hostel has provided me.”

Stories like Sophie's are why Contact Hostel's work is so vital. As a room sponsor, you'll receive a welcome pack and special updates twice a year, sharing the stories of the young people you're helping and the impact of your support.
