Final Phase of Renovations Set to Begin at Contact Hostel
We’re excited to announce that thanks to a generous donation from The MJ Ball, we’re about to begin the final stage of our long-term renovation project – transforming our hallway, stairs, landing and entrance. These are the heart of our building: the first spaces our residents see when they arrive, and the routes they walk every single day. Upgrading them will make Contact Hostel brighter, safer and even more welcoming for everyone who calls it home.
We’re lucky to have been based in a beautiful Victorian house for over forty years, but buildings like ours need regular updates and maintenance to remain safe, comfortable and fit for purpose.
This milestone follows three years of steady, transformative improvements to our facilities. In Summer 2023, we renovated our ‘Move-On’ bungalow, adding an extra bedroom and giving it a much-needed refresh after severe water damage – creating a comfortable, homely space for the girls living there. In Spring 2024, we opened our purpose-designed Learning Hub, a calm and inspiring environment where residents can complete coursework, revise for exams or meet with social workers. Then, in Winter 2024, we completed a full upgrade of our two shower rooms, vastly improving comfort, privacy and dignity. Bathroom 1, once cramped and dark, is now a bright, practical space with room to change in privacy. Bathroom 2, which hid serious leaks and outdated fittings, has been completely rebuilt with shower repairs, elegant tiling, and a warm design that residents say feels “just like a spa”.
We are deeply grateful to all our funders who have made these projects possible. At Contact, our aim is to provide a safe, supportive space for teenage girls that truly feels like home – and every improvement brings us closer to that vision. With the final refurbishment of our hallway, stairs and landing about to begin, we are completing a transformation years in the making. These works will not only enhance the look and feel of our building but will also help create an uplifting atmosphere – something that’s vital in making Contact a place of safety, stability and hope.
