We’re in the Spotlight – And We’re Delighted!

It’s been an exciting week for our charity, with a flurry of press interest shining a light on the work we do and the incredible young people we support. We’re thrilled to see our mission and message reaching a wider audience, and so grateful to the journalists and media outlets who have helped share our story.

Since the 1970s, our small team has quietly supported more than a thousand girls aged 16–19 at risk of homelessness. The stories being shared in the press are real, powerful, and a reflection of what we see every day - young people navigating unimaginable challenges, from overcrowded homes and domestic abuse to rising mental health issues and the continued fallout from the cost-of-living crisis.

The coverage rightly points out that we’re under pressure. Like many small charities, the funding landscape is becoming increasingly difficult, and we do need to raise over £220,000 this year to continue meeting the growing demand for our services. But we want to be absolutely clear: we are not at risk of closing.

What we are doing is fighting. Fighting for funding, fighting for the future of the girls we support and fighting to make sure this vital place - this home - continues to exist for those who need it most.

We know nine bedrooms might not sound like a lot. But those nine rooms - and the 24/7 support we provide alongside them - are life-changing. The young women who live here aren’t just given a roof over their heads. They’re given stability, structure and care. They’re supported to continue their education, gain independence, and rebuild their lives with confidence.

Zara’s story, shared in the article, is just one example. From being forced to leave a foster placement to getting her A-Levels and a place at university - with support from the Contact team every step of the way.

We’re incredibly proud of what we do. And although the current challenges are real, so is our resilience. With the help of people like you, we’re finding new ways to keep going.

To everyone who’s reached out, donated, or shared our story — thank you. We see you, and we’re so grateful.

Together, we can keep the lights on, keep the doors open, and keep showing up for the girls who need us.

With heartfelt thanks,

The Contact Hostel Team
