Feeling at Home: How Contact Supports Young Women Through the Cost of Living Crisis
At Contact, we’re always inspired by the voices of the young women we support. Recently, we asked our residents to share their thoughts about life at Contact, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many spoke about feeling “at home” and safe, while others highlighted the practical ways we help ease financial pressures during challenging times.
One recurring theme was how Contact helps with everyday essentials, such as toiletries, clothing, and food. One resident shared:
“We don't have to buy toiletries and I got help with a clothing voucher which was very helpful - thank you all so much for everything you do for us all and for helping whenever I needed it.”
In a time when the cost of living is rising, these practical supports are more important than ever. By providing essentials and emotional support, Contact ensures young women can focus on their education, work and personal wellbeing instead of worrying about making ends meet.
But it’s more than just practical help, our residents also spoke about the sense of belonging and stability they feel here. “I don’t feel like I’m just living somewhere; I feel like I belong,” one resident said. That feeling of home is invaluable for young people navigating the challenges of growing up, often with limited support.
Another resident highlighted the supportive environment and approachable staff:
“My experience has been amazing. All staff are welcoming and approachable; they are always happy to be a listening ear.”
At Contact, our holistic approach - combining practical assistance with emotional support - makes a real difference in the lives of the young women we work with. No one should have to face the pressures of life alone, and we’re committed to creating a space where every resident feels safe, supported, and able to build a brighter future.
