Anya’s* Story
Anya came to Contact when she was 17. At a time of significant change in her life, we were able to offer her the stability she needed to complete her studies and secure a place on a higher education course.
After living in our house for a period of time, Anya moved into our ‘Move-On’ bungalow, a transitional space designed to help young people develop their independent living skills, while still receiving the care and guidance of our expert Support Workers. Move-on accommodation allows residents to practice budgeting, cooking, cleaning and managing day-to-day responsibilities in a safe environment - helping them build the confidence and skills they need to thrive on their own.
When Anya felt ready to leave the bungalow, we supported her in finding a flat near her course. Throughout the move-on process, we provided essential items such as a bed, kitchen equipment, items for her bathroom, a microwave and a hoover. These essentials make a huge difference, ensuring young people have the basics they need to settle into their new home and focus on their future.
“We’ve seen Anya grow so much during her time with us,” says her Support Worker. “Move-on accommodation played a key role in preparing her for independent living. She embraced the challenges and responsibilities, and it’s been wonderful to see her succeed.”
At Contact, we are committed to setting our young people up for success. Without support, many would struggle to afford these essentials, and that can impact their ability to move forward confidently. By helping them start their independent lives properly equipped, we give them the best chance to flourish both personally and academically.
