Contact Hostel

Contact Hostel is a registered charity which was founded in 1970. It provides care, support and accommodation for girls and women who are homeless and who have suffered neglect and deprivation during childhood and in many cases are the victims of physical, emotional or sexual abuse.

We provide a home which is a place of safety for them where they can come to terms with the traumatic events of their childhood years. We encourage them with their studies whilst still at school or college and help them to find suitable employment.

We prepare them for the time when they must live independently by teaching them household and living skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping and budgeting. We encourage them to enjoy leisure time activities and to form good friendships.

We have an informal support system for service users after they leave if they wish to use it.

What people say about us…..

Service Users:

“My Name is Lauren.

I lived at Contact for around eight months.
I would recommend the hostel for any young girl who is homeless.
My opinion is that the hostel has helped me to move on in life and made me realise there is a
lot more I can do with my life.
I got my own flat through the hostel and i just think it is a very good place for young girls to live.”

“Hi, My name is Nicola.

I’ve been here for two and a half months now and it’s been brilliant.
Contact has sorted my housing and benefits. Now I’ve got a flat!”

On behalf of the City Centre Project:

“Hello. My name is Jane.

I have been working with Contact for a period of time now. What struck me the most when I first came to Contact was the warm and relaxed atmosphere that surrounds the house, incorporated with the unconditional support and helpfulness to the staff.

I feel this warm, friendly environment enables the young people the opportunity to re-think their lives and achieve their goals.

I have been working at the City Centre project on the Homeless Prevention Service for 16 – 17 year olds for nearly 3 years.

During the 3 years that our service has been running we have referred many of our young people to Contact and the majority of these have been accommodated at the project.

For many of the 16 – 17 year olds who present to our service it is quite a daunting proposition which can cause a lot of anxiety and stress for them.

It is invaluable to our service to be able to refer young people to a place like Contact where we know that they will be accommodated in a safe, stable and supported environment.”
